Top 10 Fashion Trends for Fall 2023

There is no better time of year than fashion month review, a chance where I finally get to put my creative and analytical talents to use to help others. Welcome to my Christmas, and here is my gift to you.

1. Ballet Flats

Starting strong with ballet flats, they became a wardrobe staple earlier this year, and they are still great during the transitional period into Fall. If you don't want the traditional flats from the 2000s, my favorite modern iterations are the Chanel dual toned classic flats, Maison Tabi ballerinas, and the Tory Burch pierces flats.

2. Fur

The best way to shop fur is second hand. I don't recommend synthetic furs since they always appear to get dull faster and and harder to dispose of. Run to your local thrift shop or the The Real Real to get your hands on a fur long coat. This detail is also popping up in footwear, a bit more niche and high maintenance, but a great tactic to add more texture to flat looks.

3. Silver and Gold Combos

Don't be afraid to mix your metals. The more silver and gold you have combined the better the look. It is easiest to style in earrings and stacks of necklaces and bracelets. Another great way to make this pop is by adding colored gets and charms to the items that match colors in your wardrobe.

4. Cherry Wine Red

The color red was littered on the runways earlier this year, but outside of that it has been trending on social media as well. A nice pop of red to separate the monotonous beige colors of Fall goes a long way.

5. Coats With Matching Scarves

This trend comes direct from the runway. The jacket with oversized scarf combo is unmatched and always has such a chic look. This is great for the days when you want something casual but still looks like you put effort in.

6. Silver Details

A pop of silver can go a long way. All metallics are in, but my favorite appearance has been the bright chrome silver details in bags and jewelry. With one of the biggest dupes of the year being the Bottega Venetta drop earrings, it's safe to say this trend is still alive.

7. Holding Our Bags

I was surprised by the amount of looks I saw go down the runways earlier this year that refrained from the crossbody. While bags with straps were visible, they were tucked and styled like clutches. The runway had a mix of small and large bags, but the unifier was carrying them under the arm or at your side.

8. Beaded Mesh

Transparent fabric is still going strong this season, but the plain laces and mesh have been replaced with beaded and gemstone pieces. This helps add more coverage for the girls like me who don't like to bare all.

9. Fabric Mixing

For the final trend I inspire you to not go with the flow. Don't be afraid to mix fabrics you've traditionally deemed conflicting. This mashup method has been common in streetwear so it's been exciting to see it drift into the high fashion ready-to-wear lines.

10. Long Pleated/Flared Skirts

It's the season for skirts, maxi and midi skirts are still trending, but pleats are back and going steady. I think Miu Miu set this course of action back during Spring 2022, but the pleats have changed since then into long skirts and on some flared. This is a great item to layer for long coats and the aforementioned fabric mixing trend.
